Blogger's Quilt Festival

Today marks the beginning of the Blogger's Quilt festival

organized by Amy of Park City Girl. It's a great opportunity to meet some new people, and get a whole lot of quilt inspiration. Click on the button at the right and check it out for yourself. You might even want to join in and show off a quilt yourself. Oh, and did I mention prizes? Click! All the info is there.

Here is my entry.

It is not a newly finished quilt, but it is one of my favorites. I made it about 8 years ago, and after my daughter hung it in her house for a while, I reclaimed it. It now hangs in a bedroom in my house, and it never fails to make me smile. It was the beginning of making bright and modern quilts for me. Right now I have 8 or 9 quilt tops that are awaiting quilting, or almost finished. Hopefully next time around I'll have some finished.

Oh, and if you leave a comment on this blog, you will be entered to win the cute little tote bag shown below. It's made from linen and vintage sheet fabrics. Just little extra giveaway. Good Luck!

TIME FLIES

Boy does time fly. Things have been so busy around here lately. Business in the shop has picked up quite a bit. And at 19 months old, the boy is quite a handful. Pretty much my days are taken up with entertaining him, while mom and dad are at work. If I'm really lucky, he'll take a nap. And occasionally, a bowl of yogurt, ( he thinks it's ice cream) and "Jack's Big Music Show" will entertain him for 30 minutes. Then it's fix dinner, do dishes, and a load of laundry. After that I get orders ready to mail, and it's bed time. I have managed to squeak out 1 block per week for the ORBQ wonky block quilt along that John "Quilt Dad" is hosting. Too bad I have yet to quilt my zig zag from last months quilt along. Oh well, one can dream. Here's a look at the first block, Wonky Log Cabin.

I'll show you #2 Tomorrow.

Call me crazy

I decided to join a quilt along, with Amy of http://parkcitygirl.blogspot.com/ as our instructor. It is being held at the Old Red Barn Co. Quilt Along Flickr site. http://www.flickr.com/groups/oldredbarncoquiltalong2009/
We are doing a zig zag quilt, and I chose baby size to help ensure completion. This was my choice of fabrics.

I already have numerous quilt tops started, and several that need quilted. Wish me luck. And if you're bored or have lots of time on your hands, or just crazy like me, feel free to join in. Maybe I'll see you there.

Anybody still out there?

Well Hellooooo! Anybody out there? I've decided to come back and blog again. It's been kind of a busy couple of months and we've had a lot of changes around here.

My daughter has decided to go back to work full time, which makes me a full time nanny. I have to run our Etsy shop all by myself as well. Now I'm thinking we may have to figure out a way for me to squeeze in at least a part time job. With the exception of my daughter's husband who is an auto broker, our entire immediate family is in the construction industry, which is pretty much at a standstill. And we all know how well the automobile industry is faring. As for myself, I've been unemployed for most a year. I worked for 15 years at 2 large fabric chains managing stores, until the company I worked for closed all three stores in our area. So my experience is in retail, which also is in the dumps.

But on a cheery note, I've finished 3 quilt tops, (finished is a misleading word) and started 5 others. I have completed 2 bags and have 6 others almost done as well. (see pic above) Hopefully I will have pictures of some of the others soon. it seem that when I do find time to take a picture, it's raining, and my camera doesn't seem to take very good pictures indoors. Too bad I dropped my old camera, I miss it.

Here's a picture of the boy being my little helper. He loves to tear the wrappers off the new fabrics. Kitty keeps an eye on him. Oh, and stop back tomorrow for info on a sale in the shop. http://www.uberstitch.etsy.com/

And the winner is.........

Sorry I am a little late on this post. Everything was going along fine, and then ,
"Internet Explorer" encountered a problem and had to close, in the middle of downloading my pictures. Technology is awesome!

I want to thank you for all your helpful comments, and you'll be happy to know that I actually got 12 blocks completed this weekend. I'd like to say it was because of your tips, but it was really because "the boy" was was only here for Saturday night while his mom and dad went out, and I decided to forego housework this weekend. But I am going to try to set up a small machine in the kitchen to sew while he's playing.

And without further ado, the winner of my fabulous goodies is........

Please send me an email or comment on this post with your mailing info, and I will get it on it's way tommorrow. Happy Sewing!

Happy Birthday

Well, today marks our 1 year blog anniversary. I figured we should celebrate by years instead of posts, as it could be a while before we hit "100". I wanted to post this earlier in the week, but the boy takes up most of my time during the day while mommy works. Somehow, every time I think I will have some time to really sew, life gets in the way. Anyhoo, I am giving a birthday present to one random lucky reader. Up for grabs is a 6 piece fat quarter set of Anna Maria Horner's Good Folks fabric, and a set of Orla Kiely dish towels. I would have made you a bag out of them, but I couldn't find the time. Talk to "the boy" about it. Leave a comment with a tip on how to schedule in sewing time, and I will draw a winner on Monday morning at 9am Orlando time, and I promise to post it immediately afterwards. Now I'm going to spend (waste) some more time looking at favorite quilts from the Bloggers Quilt Festival.

I forgot to mention, anyone can enter, I will ship anywhere.

Blogger's Quilt Festival

I had a hard time choosing my favorite quilt, as it seems that all the quilts I finish are favorites. Unfortunately for me, most of the quilts I have made, I have gifted to others. Luckily I have visitation rights. The other problem, I seem to forget about photos until after it has been gifted. (or the computer crashes and you lose all your photos.) This quilt is a quilt I made for my husband, (you never make ME anything) out of a group of my favorite fabrics from Lonnie Rossi. I seem to have a thing for fabrics with numbers, letters, type, and anything that looks used, worn, and stained. One of my favorite pieces of modern art was a framed piece of canvas that had been the top of a painter's table, covered with various layers and colors of paint.

Make sure you head on over to , http://parkcitygirl.blogspot.com/ and check out all the other quilts. There are lots of beautiful quilts to see, and don't forget to comment for some great prizes.

Easter Pimp

Just thought I'd post a quick photo update of the boy. His mommy sent them to me, saying he was all "pimped out" for Easter. So grown up for 14 months. Also note the haircut. It's very stormy here today in Orlando, so hopefully I'll have some pictures tommorrow of the bags I've finished up. Do they count for "Spring to Finish"? I certainly have alot of WIP's like that. See you tommorrow.

About Time

I guess it's been a while since I've posted. Just been busy with everyday life and babysitting the boy. I did finally get my Project Improv donation blocks finished and sent. I sent them along with some binding and a thank you gift to Jacquie http://www.tallgrassprairiestudio.blogspot.com/ for all her hard work on the project.

I also finished up my Bushfire Quilts blocks and sent those along to Tia http://campfollowerbags.blogspot.com/ with some binding and some Dunkin Donuts coffee for the quilt a thon. I had to represent against the Starbucks coffee.

I"ve also been working on a summer quilt (no batting) and curtains for "the boy's" new bedroom. I based it on a quilt by Jacquie, I hope she doesn't mind. He's been moved upstairs to his own room now that he's such a big boy. (13 months old.) It's amazing how fast they grow up. I'm so glad I've been able to spend time with him every day to see the progress first hand.

Hopefully I'll finish some bags I'm working on and I'll have some pictures to post soon.

Bushfire Help

When I first started to read blogs, My favorites were by the talented, crafty, women in Australia. As Australia has always been somewhere I would like to visit, I found it all fascinating. Since reading about the fires, I have wanted to find a way to help, while staying within my now limited means. Meet me at Mike's http://meetmeatmikes.blogspot.com/ has info for multiple ways to help on the right sidebar of her blog. I have also found a site on Etsy, OzBushfireAppeal, http://www.ozbushfireappeal.etsy.com/, that you could donate your items to ,if you are a member, sending a description, tags, pricing and pictures. They list it and sell it, and I pay for shipping to send it out. So far, I've sold 3 of the 4 things I've donated, and the site has raised around $13,500 Australian. It is being donated to the Australian Red Cross. You can donate items until feb. 23rd.

I also would like to find time this weekend to make a few wonky star blocks for The Bushfire Quilt Project being run by Tia Curtis of http://campfollowerbags.blogspot.com/. I will make sure to squeeze it in. You can see the blocks on flickr by clicking on the star in the left sidebar.

I've been meaning to post this for a week now, but I've been caught up in my own disaster of epic proportions, trying to renew my drivers license. I can't remember the last time I had to go in person to renew, and all the rules have changed. Seems that everyone is being called in to renew to: have an eye test, and to be sure you are up to date with homeland security. Being the previously mentioned procrastinator that I am, when I got married 11 yaers ago, I changed my name on my drivers liscence, and most everything else of importance, but not my social security card. So off I go to renew, and I am told that I can't renew until I can verify my ss# by changing my name. Next day, off I go to SS office, where I am told my liscence is expired so I have no valid ID. My marriage license is no longer valid as it is more than 2 years old, so I can't use it to change my name. Does that mean I am no longer married? See the dilemma. Does this mean I no longer have to pay income tax as I don't seem to have my identity anymore? Well, after 3 phone calls to the drivers license office, By my daughter, (mother of the boy), as I was losing all patience, we were told that my drivers license, and a w-2 were all that was needed, as I had already changed my name on my license. If we had any problems, we were to tell the clerk to call the help desk. At 8 a.m. this morning, we walked in for our appointment, got the most awesome clerk, and all she did was look at my (expired) license, my voter registration card to verify address, looked at my file and mentioned I should change my name with SS, and GAVE ME MY NEW LICENSE. Why was it so difficult the first time? I think I know where the government can save some money. ;o)

Thursday, February 5, 2009

Well, the International Stash Busting Giveaway is over and it is time to announce the winner. We had 109 people signed up, which means 109 numbers in a bowl for the boy to pick from. Vintage Crafter is the lucky winner of my glitzy orange and aubergine stash. Hope you enjoy it. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and left a comment. Party prep for the BIG DAY!!

Well, It's only 4 more days until the BIG DAY. NO, I am not talking about the Superbowl. I am talking about the boy's 1st BIRTHDAY PARTY. Mom, Dad, and the Boy are in Colorado, freezing, while I am here in sunny Florida basking in the sunshine. OK, maybe I am just looking at it out the window while I blog, sew a banner for the party, make a crown for the Prince. (the BOY thinks he's the KING) I thought I would have much more done while they 've been gone, I guess the list is too long. I can't wait until he gets back on Saturday. Yeah, I miss Mom and Dad too.

I did manage to get another donation block done for Project Improv. I also signed up for another giveaway. More on that Tommorrow. Here's a picture of the block. Also a picture of the practice crown.

Project Improv

Well, I guess you can see by the button on the sidebar, that I joined Project Improv. It is being hosted by Jacquie of Tallgrass Prairie Studio. Being that I am, as I've previously mentioned, a procrastinator, I Decided to get my donation block done ASAP. I have to say, that for the last 6 months or so, I seem to have misplaced my quilting mojo. Making my block last night seems to have started my creative juices flowing. Now if I can get on top of my time management skills. Oh, and I will have to talk to the boy about being more self sufficient. ;0)

Tuesday, January 6, 2009

Hi, I'm the other half of Uberstitch, the "mom", (and grandma ) :). Since my daughter has had to go back to work, I'm in charge of the business, the blog, and the boy :) This posting on a blog is new to me, I'm not sure how much of a writer I am. Although if you learn by osmosis, I sure be an expert since I certainly read alot of blogs. Right now I am trying to get the courage to join a project that Jacquie at Tallgrass Prairie Studio is starting with improvisational blocks. This style is right up my alley. I have a really hard time "staying inside the lines" and following instructions when I quilt. My other problem is I procrastinate. A lot. Maybe if I join the possibility of embarrassment will force me to finish. Well, I guess I'll think about it while I post some fabric on etsy, and clean up the dishes. And here is a new photo of the boy from his Christmas card photo shoot. I'm still waiting for a call from GQ.
